Default Want to use ketchup to make spaghetti sauce, need recipes?

Ok I have Interstitial Cystitis and I can not have tomatoes because of the acid. BUT for some reason my heinz organic ketchup does not bother me at all. I mentioned that to my mom and she said I could make spaghetti sauce out of ketchup. Sounds gross but she said she used to do it along time ago and it worked. Seeing how my mom is a wonderful cook I believe her and want to try. I was wondering if anyone has done this and what are your recipes? no meat please!

It does sound gross but I am willing to give it a shot since I have not been able to have spaghetti sauce in years and wont ever again for the rest of my life, so i'll try anything at this point.

I initially thought the same thing as you, ketchup on spaghetti sounded gross! But a friend of mine made some sauce once that tasted delicious and when I asked her for the recipe, I was amazed at what she had used for it - including ketchup! It seems a little weird, but it's really good. Here it is:

2 slices bacon, chopped into bits
chopped onion & green pepper (optional)
1 small container plain yogurt or sour cream (about 1 cup)
1/4 cup ketchup
1 can mushrooms or 1/2 - 1 cup fresh mushrooms
salt & pepper to taste
1/4 tsp garlic powder
dash of oregano

In a frying pan, fry up the chopped bacon (and onion & pepper if desired) and mushrooms. When bacon is nice and crispy and mushrooms are lightly browned, stir in yogurt and ketchup along with seasonings. Once sauce bubbles, take off heat and serve over pasta.

lol, well, you can make a spaghetti sauce with ketchup, but it isn't an italian sauce... the ketchup contains vinegar and in the italian spaghetti sauce you can't add vinegar... by the way, to solve the problem of the acid you can add 2 spoon of sugar to the tomato sauce...
