Stu,

OK, you brought up something else that I wondered about.

From their webpage: "Fluzone vaccine contains three inactivated (killed)
influenza viruses: type A (H1N1), type A (H3N2), and type B1,2" (1,2
being footnotations). If you wish, see:

http://www.fluzone.com/?fa=protect/fluzone/about/character

So H1N1 is mysteriously part of the seasonal flu vaccine?

Best,

Andy

Cornbread dressing is *much* better known on Thanksgiving. Greens with bacon

I've lived in Florida, South Carolina, and Virginia in the southern USA, but
I never heard of mac&cheese as a "traditional" Thanksgiving dish until
recently. A friend of mine attended Thanksgiving at the house of her
boyfriend's family in Louisiana. Afterward, she made somewhat-horrified
remarks regarding the mac&cheese, the canned gravy, and the mirliton faux
corn dogs. (She had grown up in Seattle, so this was not *her* tradition by
any stretch of the imagination!)

Mind you, *I* don't see anything wrong with the idea of mac&cheese on
Thanksgiving, and if it fit in with the rest of the menu I'd be perfectly
willing to serve it, but my opinion is not typical because I actively avoid
following tradition most of the time.

Indian grocery stores sell a vast variety of different spice blends for
different purposes, like for example making raita. Tho' people who look
like they are of Indian origin do buy the blends, a major problem is
that the spices will deteriorate with time unlike freshly roasted and
ground home-made mixtures. Indian stores also seem not to pay too much
attention to sell-by dates but the blends can be very useful.

"Pudding" in the American sense of the word, that is.

I tried a simple, eggless chocolate pudding cooked with flour and it
seemed to work just as well as cornstarch. Since flour is cheaper,
what's the advantage of cornstarch?

However, vanilla pudding (the same recipe, minus the cocoa) always
burns no matter how careful I am, so I assume using flour wouldn't
help.
