Default question about extremely old canner

I've been reading this discussion group for about a year now and have
gotten a wealth of knowledge from y'all. Thanks so much! I started
teaching myself to can about this time last year, but only able to do
fruits and tomatoes since I was canning using the hot water bath
method. I've been keeping my eyes open for a pressure canner and
scored one today at a garage sale (yay!) The sweet lady that sold it
to me for $25 told me she'd been using it for 60 years and it was her
mothers before that. She'd apparently turned down several customers
over the past two days that wanted it based on the fact she had it
priced so low. But when she realized I was going to use it to
actually can, she was thrilled it'd be put to good use.
Okay, so here's my question. She had mentioned how it couldn't be
used on an electric top, but gas. I asked if it'd be okay to use on a
glass cook top, and she said she thought so, but couldn't be for
sure. I've looked around online and couldn't find an answer, so I
thought I'd ask you guys.
Again, thanks for the load of info you've give me the past year. My
grandmother passed away when I was only 8, almost 20 years ago, and
she was the only one in the family that could have thought me about
preserving. It's been quite a challenge trying to teach myself how to
do it accurately, but y'all have helped so much 8-)

I forgot to add what type of pressure canner it is:
The top lid is imprinted with the following:
"National Pressure Cooker
Eau Claire, Wis

Thanks again!

Default question about extremely old canner

More information is needed. What type of closure, ie lid does it have.
What is it made of, steel or heavy duty aluminum? Does it have a lid
gasket, a jiggler and/or steam gauge, pressure relief gasket?

I ask these questions in all seriousness. I am using a pressure canner
that we bought in the mid-sixties and it has been used nearly every year
since then. Properly maintained, new gaskets, etc. periodically, they
should last pretty close to forever.

Take a look at this web page and see if yours matches one of the
Nationals on there.

In addition the company there sells parts for the National Pressure canners.

Hope this helps.
