| I have an old (probably at least 40 years), thick-walled, aluminum, three-position weight (5, 10, 15 pounds) Mirro 8-quart that was sold as a canner and cooker. My family used it for beans--it fits 1-pint jars. The warnings I've seen about using canners and not cookers mention that the newer cookers have thinner walls and thus faster heat- up/cool-down times than the old ones. (The heat-up/cool-down times are taken into account when the canning times are determined.) The warnings also talk about 10-quart as the minimum size of a canner. Any opinions on whether I could use this Mirro for canning? Thanks, Dave |
