Default question about pressure canner

Canners and cookers are not the same thing. Canners are larger. ACE
Hardware carries the Presto in several sizes or will get it in for you. I
ordered mine and had it in less than a week. Expect to pay between $80 and
$110 for a Presto canner with weight and dial.

Default question about pressure canner

I have an old (probably at least 40 years), thick-walled, aluminum,
three-position weight (5, 10, 15 pounds) Mirro 8-quart that was sold
as a canner and cooker. My family used it for beans--it fits 1-pint
jars. The warnings I've seen about using canners and not cookers
mention that the newer cookers have thinner walls and thus faster heat-
up/cool-down times than the old ones. (The heat-up/cool-down times
are taken into account when the canning times are determined.) The
warnings also talk about 10-quart as the minimum size of a canner.

Any opinions on whether I could use this Mirro for canning?

Thanks,
Dave

I would never use an 8 qt cooker to can anything.
