Default OBIT for my mama

Gentle friends:
Here's to my mum who passed away August 1 at 88 years young. This
last year has been twice that long and the last couple of months too
quick. I feel she's at peace and hopefully in a better plane, probably
barefoot. She introduced me to my first "foreign" food: an eye-talian
restaurant. She taught me to stir my iced tea without clinking the
spoon against the glass. She was the gardener first and my miniscule
musical talents come from her side; we sang together even though
neither of us could sing on key. She taught me to spell. She came to
live near me after she went blind at 78. Mama went back to college
newly blind and eventually racked up 33 credit hours. She always
thought of herself as a writer.
I thought you might be interested in this poem she wrote after her
sister and roommate passed on several years ago. Yes, it has food in
it. And now she's published.
Edrena

For Mary, July 1998
Tragedy is endured
both the tremendous or the trivial.
Blessed are they who walk in hand with their diety,
but when God seems far away or cruel,
The trivial can be a tool.
When sanity's at risk,
May your pillow be soft -- and your toast crisp.

Dear Edrena,

I'm so sorry for the loss of your mother. Having lost my mother some years
back, I understand the loss and the void. You had a wonderful relationship,
and it seems she had a wonderful life. You described a mother who had many
gifts to give you, and I know you will cherish them forever.

Warm regards...

So sorry to hear of your mother's death Edrena. I know what you are
feeling. My mom passed away Dec 23, 2002. She was 89 and
very ill. It was a blessing for her to go.
